A Forest Shouting, Opening Reception

A forest of overlapping and intermingling panels represent the vocalizations of a myriad of species shouting out for our attention in a world where our species, over a relatively short timeline, has managed to silence so many others—a process which has taken on the velocity of a runaway train cascading and silencing as it thunders along.

This work of Alice Hargrave uses the sound wave patterns of threatened bird calls, widening to include a diverse range of species. Loud colorful voices are represented using unexpected colors in a non hierarchical way from a broad spectrum of domains, kingdoms, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species in a body of work that bridges art and science.

This installation is both visual and sonic, including recordings from the wild and archives.
