The theory of fractal geometry; infinite layers of self-similar shapes repeated in every living thing, hold an endless fascination for me. I work intuitively through thousands of brushstrokes creating hundreds of small paintings. I then collate the work, tearing out images that work together. When I find compositions that intrigue me, I then delve into the longer process of collage, taking time to digest the image.

Allison Svoboda (b.1964, Detroit, Michigan) is an internationally recognized artist working in two dimensional paintings, installations and sculpture. Finding the edge between intuitive and deliberate mark making, Allison Svoboda’s work is both ethereal and ominous at the same time. Her sumi-e collage works are intricate paintings layered to create sculptural works. These paintings based on fractal geometry are also translated into large-scale works on metal and glass. Her artwork can be seen in public art installations, hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, Hyatt and Hilton as well as private collections throughout the world.
