I view painting and drawing as a metaphor for how we must navigate, and resolve, the varied and often contradictory elements of our daily lives. Each work can be thought of as a conflict of intentions. My goal is to resolve the conflict.

David Kohan (b.1959, Johnstown, Pennsylvania) is a painter and draftsman based in Chicago. He received his BFA in painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and his MFA, also in painting, from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he subsequently taught for ten years. He has taught at the college and university levels altogether for 30 years. He has exhibited his paintings and drawings nationally and has received several distinguished grants and numerous exhibition awards. David has work in public, corporate and private collections primarily in the Mid-Atlantic area.
