The sculptures and paintings I create are in response to the world within and around me. Sometimes, “monkey-mind” gets the best of me, so creating artwork seems to quiet the chatter and get me out of my head. Capturing a representational scene does the same as it focuses me on something outside of myself. I am interested in personal metamorphosis as reflected in nature.
Helen Dannelly (b.1958, Montgomery, Alabama) is a Chicago-based artist easily moving between painting and sculpture. Co-Founder of Catalyst Art Lab, an onine artists’ membership community and art school, she is also curator of the Forshey Gallery at the Chicago Temple First United Methodist Church in the loop. She has shown internationally and her work is in collections in both the US and Europe.
