I have created 2-D shaped paintings throughout my career. First exploring color and spatial illusion in geometric, hard-edged paintings, later moving into abstract works contrasting colors, textures, nature, and illusion. Recent works are inspired by architectural fragments, and sculptures of heroes, returning to abstraction, juxtaposing color, textural surface, and the illusion of three-dimensional organic form.

Joanna Pinsky (b. 1942, Brooklyn, New York) creates shaped paintings and rectangular works on paper ranging from abstraction to images of architectural fragments throughout time and portraits of heroes. She has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions including The Evanston Art Center, Koehnline Museum at Oakton College, Space900 Gallery, Evanston, the former Perimeter and Nancy Lurie galleries, AIR Gallery, New York City, and group shows in Santa Fe, Hanover, Germany, Osaka, Japan. Collections include Illinois State Museum, Oakton College, Milliken University, Northwestern University and many private and corporate collections.
