In my watercolors and fabric work, I use layers and transparency to create a sense of depth in both meaning and visual experience. I explore my materials intuitively, letting them lead the way. Themes that often arise are connection, ephemerality, serenity, and the poetry of micro- and macroscopic worlds.

Kelly McKaig (b.1960, Columbus, Ohio) is a Chicago-based artist. Her work has been exhibited in various institutions locally and nationally. She is the recipient of numerous grants and residencies, including a 2023 Chicago DCASE grant. Her work is in the collections of Graham Nash, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and many private collections.
