I use sky, horizon, and water to explore the boundless possibilities of emotional temperature in my paintings. As the climate crisis escalates, I see my painting, swimming, and coaching as political practices to deepen my relationship to the natural world, and to assist others in doing the same.

Louise LeBourgeois (b.1964, New Orleans, Louisiana) is a painter, writer, swimmer, and open water swim coach. The flux and heft of Lake Michigan inspire her paintings. She earned an MFA in Painting from Northwestern and an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago. She is an Artadia finalist, and her work is in public and private collections throughout the US. LeBourgeois lives a short walk from Lake Michigan with her husband, the painter Steven Carrelli.
