My work is based heavily in both material and stylistic exploration, while utilizing and exploiting the mark making accidents and discoveries that result from my experiments. I use nature as a mask or subject to attract my viewer closer in order to discover the various techniques, marks, and materials I myself have just discovered. 

Michael O’Briant (b.1968 Asheboro, North Carolina) is a Chicago-based artist working in multi-media including pastels, acrylic, oil, monotype printing, metallic leaf, papier mache and light box. His work is deeply rooted in both nature and his desire to maintain the integrity of hand made art in an increasingly digital world. Michael’s work has been represented in galleries all over the US and his work is represented in collections throughout the US, England and Europe.
