My ceramic work takes as its starting point the traditional forms of pottery that have evolved over centuries: the bottle, the bowl, the cup, the jar. My goal is the transfiguration of these quotidian objects by means of unconventional design, exaggerated scale, and experimental surface treatment, without losing sight of their functional roots.

Nathaniel Patschke (b.1964, Hokkaido, Japan) was influenced by the aesthetics of Japanese ceramics at an early age. Moving to the United States he continued to pursue the study of ceramics at The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. After an intervening career in Computer Aided Design, he is now dedicated full time to his ceramic work at his studio in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago.
