In my work I create images that evoke a sense of mystery, an ambiguous narrative. I start each painting intuitively. I then go back into the painting layering, working with the forms that have emerged blending spontaneity with deliberation. Imagery from nature, stylized foliage and absurd creatures emerge, suggesting playful stories that draw the viewer into dreamlike landscapes.
Sandra Leonard (b.1960, Stuttgart, Germany) is a multi disciplinary Chicago-based artist creating paintings, wearable sculpture and performance art. In the last 30 years her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has presented numerous performances, improvised theater, alternative fashion shows and installation projects.
