Through my work, I seek to highlight the beauty, fragility, rhythm, and harmony of micro life forms. I create intricate structures of woven, organic forms, reflecting my understanding of nature, the delicacy of life itself, and my own cultural heritage.
Shiyuan Xu (b.1989, Hangzhou China) is originally from Hangzhou, China and currently works and lives in Chicago, IL. Shiyuan received a BA (2012) from China Academy of Art and an MFA (2016) from Arizona State University. Shiyuan is a recipient of 2017 Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist and 2021 NCECA Emerging Artist.
